Entourage, "Home Sweet Home": How long do you want to keeping going on like this?

My review/recap of last night's eighth (and final) season premiere after I don't want a throat lozenges in this house.

Oh, Entourage. You used to be so good, and now you've become what we are watching now (and it's not good). In the later seasons of Entourage, it tried to be something that it wasn't - a show that took itself too seriously. What made those first few seasons so good was that it was a straight comedy a group of friends growing up in Hollywood life. In the later seasons, it has gone in a more dramatic direction. Part of that is necessary for the show to grow, but we watched Entourage to laugh and be entertained, not to have feelings about these characters and leave feeling sad or depressed.

And that's exactly how the final season premiere left me, and it had the chance to go back to the old Entourage.

Vince gets out of the treatment center after 90 days of sobriety. Johnny, Turtle, E, Ari, and Scott all go to pick him up and take him out to lunch. Vince is ready to go back to work, and E tells him that Air Walker is still his if he submits to a drug test, but it won't be shooting for a couple months. Vince tells them that he came up with his own movie idea that he wants to direct about an American and his dog looking for survivors of a Romanian mine explosion. They all hate the idea but don't tell Vince, fearing that he will go back to drugs and alcohol. The group decides to throw Vince a welcome home party with no alcohol or drugs.

Ari goes to his house to talk to his wife to see why she is so mad at him, and to see if they can get back together and move back in. Mrs. Ari tells him that it's not going to happen because she is seeing someone else.

They have the party, and Billy Walsh brings over a ton of girls that he picked up from various AA and NA meetings that he went to. E confronts Vince about why he hasn't called him or was treating him the same as everyone else. Vince tells him that wants E to always put friendship before business. E then tells him that his move idea is terrible. Vince then gets mad because no one is treating him the right way and that they are too concerned with his well-being and asks everyone what they think of his movie idea. They finally all tell him that it isn't good. The episode ends with Turtle accidently lighting the house on fire, leaving the guys with no place to go.

Funniest parts of the episode:
  • Ari's son Jonah at Ari's office, making fun of Lloyd
  • Johnny and Scott planning the sober party: "You know and sober people?" "Of age?"
  • Billy naming all of the girls as they enter the house
This was the Entourage episode that I didn't want to see. I miss the fun-loving episodes, with Vince gaining popularity, and Ari on top of the world, with Turtle and Drama as lovable losers. This season has a chance to do this, now that Vince is almost starting from the bottom. But Ari still has his problems (who is Mrs. Ari seeing?), and E is still sad about Sloane (rightfully, but it's just not an Entourage story I want to see). I do like that Scott seems to be a regular character now, and I hope we see more of Sloane. Hopefully, these last seven episodes are like old-Entourage and are just care-free.
