Friends, "The One with the Stoned Guy": What a tool

My review/recap of the February 16, 1995 episode after I have to make macaroni and cheese.

That was fast. After a few good episodes in a row, Friends seemed to find the formula to make a good episode; two or three smaller plots rather than one main plot and a sub-plot or two. However, this episode showed that that's not always the case.

There are three small plots in this episode, but nothing really clicked or was funny. Chandler quits his job after being promoted because he doesn't want to do that type of work for the rest of his life. He doesn't know what he wants to do, but he doesn't want to care about his job. Over the course of the episode, he receives a better offer and accepts the promotion because of it. He gets a brand new office with a great view and a secretary, but he has to work late and hates himself for it.

Ross goes on a date with Celia (Melora Hardin), a co-worker at the museum. They go back to his apartment, and she wants him to talk dirty to her. He struggles with it and only comes up with "vulva." They end up cuddling instead of having sex. He asks Joey for help, and much to his dismay, Joey makes him practice on him. He finally gets it, and when Joey asks how it went, Ross says that he talked too long and they both got too tired and ended up just cuddling.

One of Phoebe's clients, Steve (Jon Lovitz) is opening a restaurant and Phoebe invites him to Monica's apartment so that she can cook for him and perhaps hire her as the head chef. Steve smokes marijuana on the taxi ride over and his high at the apartment. After realizing it, Monica calls off the dinner, and the group meet at Central Perk.

Funniest part of the episode: Chandler walking in on Ross practicing his dirty talk on Joey.

None of the three stories were interesting or funny. Ross struggles on his own and a plot that involves all three girls is usually best when it uses them equally. This episode showed that greatly. It used the successful formula and failed. Oh well, maybe next time.
