Friends, "The One Where Nana Dies Twice": You have a quality

A recap/review of the November 10, 1994 episode after I steal Sweet'n'Low's from restaurants and the house.

Average episode. That's really about all I can say about it. Nothing was overly funny, but it did have some meaningful moments, particularly when Ross or Monica was reminiscing about Nana.

What made the episode work was that it had the one large plot (Ross and Monica's grandmother dying and the funeral) with one sub-plot that was able to mix into the larger plot (everyone thinking that Chandler is gay).

The Chandler sub-plot was certainly the funnier parts of the episode. The fact that everyone thought that he was gay when they first met him and then couldn't explain why they thought he was gay other than that he had a gay vibe.

The funeral parts of the episode certainly had its moments. The Sweet'n'Low packets falling down on Ross. Most importantly though, this was the first time that Ross told Rachel how he feels about her. Unfortunately she didn't fully get it because he was high on painkillers and was saying that he loved everyone.

Funniest parts of the episode:
  • Ross and Monica's father explaining why he would want to be buried at sea, and how they could make a whole day out of it.
  • Ross in his grandmother's closet helping his mother and aunt pick out clothes.
  • Joey thinking a picture of Ross naked as a little boy was Monica.
Sign of the Times: Joey watching a football game on tiny portable television. Now, all a person needs is a cell phone to watch a game, or at worse check scores.

Overall it was an okay episode. It had touching moments and funny moments, but again there wasn't much for Phoebe, Joey, and Rachel. The good episodes of Friends has something to do for each character. At least Ross finally told Rachel how he feels about her.
