Falling Skies, "Sanctuary Part 2": The world's coming apart

My review/recap of last night's episode after I think about buying in this neighborhood.

I was surprised by this episode. After a strong Part 1, I thought that the conclusion would only be better. The last episode set up what could have been a great battle between the good humans and the skitters and the human traitors. Instead, we got this episode. A bad conclusion to the with very little excitement or even action. It just wasn't as interesting as the first part.

At the farm with the traitors, Pope is able to break free from his chains and fights with Clayton. He escapes, leaving Clayton unconscious. He sees the men from the 2nd Mass. that Clayton "escorted" lying dead in a field.

At the school, Tom is anxious and wants to go on a patrol because the escort hasn't come back yet. After arguing with Weaver, Tom tells him that he is going to check on the kids.

Rick is acting strange at the farm. He is not eating, and asks Ben how he can eat "their" food. Lourdes sees Eli's backpack in the corner. She shows it to Hal and Mike. Mike breaks into the barn and sees where they held Pope and finds other children's things. Clayton sneaks up on Mike and holds a gun on him. Clayton tells Mike about his deal with the skitters. He then asks Mike to make a choice.

Mike tells Hal about Clayton's plan and they grab guns and get everyone out of the farm. They run into the woods, with Clayton's men chasing them. They shoot at each other, with Clayton shouting that they need the children. Mike hides behind a truck and returns the gunfire. Mike tells Hal to take Rick and take care of him. The two of them run and catch up with the rest of the children, while Clayton sneaks up on Mike and kills him.

The children hide out in a house, until Clayton's men find them and demand them to come out. Hal shoots back at them and tells Lourdes to lead the kids out the back of the door. A firefight occurs between Hal and Clayton's men until one of them is killed from behind by Pope. Clayton's men trade shots with Pope until Pope is shot in the leg. Tom finds Pope, and Pope tells him about the situation. Tom comes up with his own plan, takes Pope's bullets and shouts that Pope is dead. He surrenders to Clayton's men and tells the children to come out of the house. They march back to to the farm, where Weaver and the 2nd Mass are waiting for them and capture Clayton and his men, and free to children. Clayton and some of his men fight back, leading to Tom killing them.

Back at the school, they hold a military funeral for Mike. Rick is doesn't understand how humans can kill each other, and says "We would never kill our own." Pope is taken care of by Anne, and Tom tells him there is a spot in the kitchen for him.

This episode provides a conclusion to the storyline, but it just wasn't as good as the first part. The baby story had nothing important to it. It would have been better if she went into labor at a more inopportune time, or if the baby turned out to be half-skitter or something that would cause more of a problem. The fight between the humans turned out to be not exciting or important in the end. It came and went. Are there are groups that made deals with the skitters?

There's two episodes left in the season. Hopefully there are more like last week's episode than this one. This show needs more action and exciting this for it to survive. Clearly, it fails as an emotional show (as seen in earlier episodes), but when it focuses on the action and the war itself it is a very good show.
