The Sopranos, "Nobody Knows Anything": A secret is a heavy load

My review/recap of the March 21, 1999 episode after I suppose I should've just kept my mouth shut, like a mute.

Tony sure has a complicated life. As one problem is solved, another one comes in. The rat problem is finally solved (we think!), but an even greater problem to Tony is about to come at him and he doesn't even see it.

The episode opens with Pussy and Jimmy getting arrested at Jimmy's pool haul during a FBI raid. Vin tells Tony that someone in his crew is an informant, and Vin says that it is Pussy. Silvio tells Tony that Vin owes Pussy $30,000 and wonders if that is why he told Tony that. Tony demands that Vin show him the paperwork that says that Pussy is wearing a wire. Before Vin is able to, he is arrested at a brothel and then jumps off a bridge the next day.

Pussy is bailed out of jail by his wife and stays at home and stops making his collections because of his sore back. Tony goes to visit him, to see if he can figure out if Pussy is wearing a wire, Pussy tells Tony about the hardship of putting his children through college. Tony tells Pussy that he has options and that he can always go to his friends. Tony leaves Pussy's unsure if Pussy is the informant.

Tony tells Paulie that he thinks Pussy is wearing a wire and wants Paulie to check it out. Paulie volunteers to "do it" (kill Pussy), but Tony says they have to be 110% positive and that he needs Paulie to see Pussy physically wearing the wire before he can act on it. Paulie takes Pussy to a steam bath, but Pussy refuses to take off his clothes, saying that the doctor told him that heat was bad for his back and high blood pressure.

Jimmy is released and shows up at Tony's house. They talk, and Jimmy asks Tony a lot of questions, including where Tony is going to hide the money that they got from the last episode. Tony realizes that Jimmy is the one wearing a wire, and that Vin got Pussy and Jimmy confused. Tony tells Silvio, and Paulie about Jimmy and when he asks where Pussy is, nobody knows where he went and that he disappeared.

During a visit from Junior, Livia tells him that other captains in his crew have been putting their mothers in the same community and have been having meetings without him. Junior sees this as Tony planning against him, and along with the anger Junior already had for Tony, decides to have Tony killed. Chucky (Sal Ruffino) tells Mikey that they should go outside for the hit.

Sign of the Times: The Clinton-Lewinsky scandal was used as a current reference while the Soprano family was discussing the news about Vin (and others) getting arrested at the brothel.

Funniest part of the episode: When Livia is complains that nobody likes her and that she should keep her mouth shut, and Junior is paranoid that the captains are meeting without him and that Tony needs to go.

A good episode that moves the plot along very fast, and we realize that Tony may have more problems than he can handle. Even with finding out that Jimmy is the rat, he still has to deal with the upcoming problem with Junior (which he doesn't even know about). The end of the season is coming up fast.
