The Sopranos, "Commendatori": I felt right at home

My review/recap of the February 6, 2000 episode after I hit the topless beaches and see that crater.

The Sopranos in the old country. This was a good "middle" episode. It set up many things, but there was very little action in the episode.

Tony, Paulie, and Christopher go to Italy to make a deal with the local Camorra family (distant relatives of the Soprano family) about selling stolen vehicles. Carmela is upset that Tony is going, because he can go away with his associates but never with his own family. Tony explains that it's strictly a business trip and no time for fun activities.

At lunch, with Carmela and Rosalie Aprile, Angie Bonpensiero (Toni Kalem), Pussy's wife, tells them that she hates that Pussy has come home. She had a biopsy on a tumor, and Pussy has no symphony for her. She says that she has thought of suicide, but instead she will look into getting a divorce.

Pussy not only has problems with his marriage, but also with being an informant. While at a party goods store where he is meeting Skip, they run into Jimmy Bones (Mike Memphis), an Elvis impersonator who is also mafia connected. Pussy introduces Skip as a "friend of ours from Dover." Later, Skip tells Pussy that he handled it well and didn't attract attention. Pussy then visits Jimmy's house, where he ends up beating him to death to ensure his secret.

In Italy, Tony, Paulie, and Christopher meet Furio (Federico Castelluccio), who will be their translator for the trip. Furio tells them they will be having dinner with many of the captains of the family but that Don Vittorio may not be there. Paulie and Tony go to dinner and discuss business with Nino, whom Tony does not want to talk to. Don Vittorio is then wheeled in to the dinner by his daughter Annalisa (Sofia Milos). Tony realizes that the Don is senile and incapable of conducting business, and that Annalisa is in control of the family.

The next day Tony meets with Annalisa, but still feels strange about dealing with a woman (especially since he likes her). Paulie and Christopher don't provide any help: Christopher stays in his room, getting high from heroin, and Paulie tries to rediscover his roots, only to discover he hates the "real" culture.
Tony and Annalisa agree on a price for the stolen cars, and that Tony will also get Furio to work for him.  The two then become happy to be in business together. The three happily return back to New Jersey.

Not a good episode in the grand scheme of The Sopranos, but it was nice to see Tony in Italy, doing business with "the other side." Unfortunately Richie can not keep his scariness factor from last episode going as he is not in the episode though. But it looks like Furio will be joining the Soprano crew.
