The Sopranos, "Do Not Resuscitate": You let it go

My review/recap of the January 23, 2000 episode after I drive by Jimi Hendrix's house in Seattle.

Not exactly a good follow up to the episode before. This wasn't a particularly good episode, and really only moved along the Tony-Junior storyline, and gave us a little bit more of Pussy's story.

Tony visits Junior in jail. Tony asks to meet with Junior's "courier" and right-hand man Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri (Steven Schirripa). They meet at Satriale's, where Tony tells Bobby that Junior can still earn from his shylock, coke dealing, and joint-fitters union, but everything else belongs to Tony. Tony also says that Junior will keep the title of boss. As he leaves Bobby says, "To the victor belongs the spoils."

Junior's lawyer successfully gets Junior out of jail and into house arrest because of a medical condition. Junior is able to have meetings at his doctor's office though. There, Junior tells Tony that the owner of the Green Groves retirement community has been discussing Soprano business and was spreading the rumor about Tony and his mother. Tony takes action, and a state police officer finds the man's car and (most likely) his body in the trunk.

Pussy has surgery on his back and has his "friend" Skip (Louis Lombardi) drive him home. Skip is a FBI agent, and Pussy has been working with the FBI since 1998. With Jimmy dead, Skip wants Pussy to step up and help the government more. Pussy keeps giving Skip false information.

Massarone Brothers Construction is having problems with protests over a lack of African American workers. Jack Massarone (Robert Desiderio) asks Tony to help him with the problem. Tony sends his associates, including Christopher, and Matt and Sean to "scare away" the protesters. Tony later visits Reverend James, Jr. (Gregalan Williams), the man who organized the protests, where Tony splits the profits that he made off of the deal with Massarone.

Janice continues to visit Livia, who is still unhappy and in self-pity, everyday in the hospital. Meadow tells Janice that Livia enjoys opera and show tune music. Janice brings records to the hospital the next day, which makes Livia very emotional. A nurse discusses with Janice whether to make Livia a "Do Not Resuscitate" is she ever falls into a coma or is kept alive through machines and tubes. Janice talks it over with Tony, who tells her that she can do whatever she wants, and that she can even move in to Livia's house if she wants. AJ visits Livia that night, and lets it slip that Janice and Tony were talking about the DNR. Livia becomes upset at Janice, even when Janice says that she is taking her back to her house and will live with her. At night, Livia calls Carmela and tells her about her troubled children and that she is leaving her money to her grandchildren. Carmela tells her never to call the house again, and as Livia is telling her that if there is any foul play, it would be Janice, Carmela hangs up.

Junior falls in his bathtub while shaving and possibly breaks something. Bobby calls Tony for help, who comes over to find Junior lying on the couch in a bathrobe. Tony says they should call an ambulance, but Junior refuses. Tony then picks him up and carries him to the car.

Nothing really important happens. This episode sort of came and went. Junior is now under house arrest, but he is severely hurt. Janice is going to move in to Livia's house with her, when she can get out of the hospital. Other than that, it's still business as usual for Tony. At least Meadow got her driver's license.
