Friends, "The One with the Ick Factor": Rob that cradle

My review/recap of the May 4, 1995 episode after I ask who the most powerful Power Ranger is.

After some pretty bad episodes, thankfully this one comes up and is good. It has two main plots with two smaller side plots, and all four worked well.

Monica is dating Ethan (Stan Kirsch), while the rest of the group thinks it's weird because he is a senior in college. Monica doesn't care, and even told him that she was 22. Monica has him over her apartment and invites him to stay over. He tells her that he is a virgin, and Monica finds it romantic that he was waiting for the right person. They have sex, and afterwards she tells him that she is actually 26. He then tells her that he is actually a senior in high school. Monica is astonished but she says that they have to break up.

Phoebe becomes Chandler's secretary for a week, because is normal secretary is out for a medical reason.  Phoebe learns that Chandler's co-workers do not like him, now that he is there boss. Chandler becomes very concerned about this, and tries everything to get them to like him again. Phoebe tells him that they will never see him the same as he was now that he is their boss. Chandler understands, and uses it as an advantage as he makes people get their work in on time.

Ross gets a beeper so that Carol can let him know when she is going into labor. Unfortunately, the beeper number is similar to an adult services number (55-JIMBO and 55-JUMBO), and he gets calls all the time.

Rachel has an erotic dream about her and Chandler causing Ross to be jealous of Chandler. Later she has another dream, this time with her, Chandler and Joey. She falls asleep on the couch next to Ross, who is watching television. She starts to moan his name in her sleep, and he become excited and starts dancing around. He slips on the table and lands on her, waking her up. Just as it looks like things will happen between them, Ross beeper goes off. It is Carol and she is going into labor and Ross is about to become a father.

Funniest parts of the episode:
  • Phoebe as Chandler's secretary
  • Ethan asking who Joan Collins is
  • The guys doing Power Rangers impressions
Sign of the times:
  • Ross has a beeper
  • Monica jogs with a Walkman
  • The Power Rangers and Muppet Babies references

Finally we have a good episode again. The only person who was really left out of the episode was Joey, but the episode definitely made up for it. Each storyline worked and nothing was really done for a cheap laugh and to have a cheap moment. Hopefully the next two episodes (last two of the season) keep the ball rolling.
